I agree with using the machine to do the binding - however I like to hand quilt - I know crazy, huh!

You have LOTS of company on doing everything by machine...I've NEVER been one to do handwork..cept yrs ago I did do cross-stitch, but that's it. I also do my bindings like you do and I LIKE IT.

Hand is a 4-letter word. Work is a 4-letter word. Putting them together make 1 really bad word.

Well, you were at a quilt show, right? Isn't that the home of the "quilt police" and "quilt political correctness"? I mean, who decides what is right/wrong/should be done other than the runners, organizers of the shows, the judges, etc.

I think that bindings must be stronger if they are sewn by machine. I can't see how there is much dispute there.

Some people like ,need,to feel superior.I do all I can by machine. But,I appreciate the hand work others do.I don't consider it the benchmark I need to aspire to,though.Whatever works for you.

I do like to hand sew my binding to the back because I can hide my mistakes easier than when I do it all on the machine.

I do almost everything by machine. I used to quilt by hand but I used quilting frames that took up the whole living room. Besides I always felt like I would never see the end of the quilt. Once I learned how to machine quilt, I haven't done another by hand. Besides my fingers would get so sore and raw from feeling for the needles I had to stop off & on for them to heal up. No thanks, love my longarm machine. No more bleeding fingers or sore knees from pinning quilts together on the floor.

You are not alone! Don't let people bother you. You are creating your quilts for you. If people have reservations about your techniques, that's their problem

I love hand work and hand quilting, but certainly understand that not everyone feels this way. We are very fortunate to have so many choices, and not criticize the choices of others. To each her own!

Meet a sister weirdo.............The first quilt I hand sewed the binding on took me 2 1/2 hours and it was a baby quilt. I swore I would never hand quilt binding again. Yes, I've had comments of my binding, but most were positive due to how it was perfectly done. Stitched on bottom and turned over to the top and top stitched is the way I do it, and always will.
