What is one of the handiest little tools you have in your sewing room?

I was an English teacher, and I love words! I think your comment about "messily" was fun...it should be a word! (Obviously, I know usage, but I am not, and have never been, a language Natzi. Language is dynamic and flows toward need.)

The wedge-shaped rubber kind that holds the door open.
I buy the large ones, they come 2 to the pack and I even found some in white at Dollar Tree. Place them under the back of your machine, about 2" from each end)to tilt it forward at a more ergonomically correct angle. Cuts down on shoulder fatigure and I can still use my cabinet insert around my machine. They always go to class with me because classroom tables are never at cabinet height.

This is silly....I have been pondering this for over an hour and I still can't pick just one!!! On top of that, I'm reading everyone else's posts to see if there are any neat little gadgets that I don't have yet.

My rotary cutter and my Fons & Porter mechanical marking pencils.
I have bought EVERY marking pencil/device designed thus far and these pencils are the ONLY thing that mark neatly, last throughout the quilting of the quilt...and then wash out easily. They also make nice thin lines so they are easy to hand quilt and keep a neat line.

I made myself a pin cushion and put velcro on it and then a piece of velcro on my machine. I attach the pin cushion (to the right on the arm) to my sewing machine and it is wonderful. Love having my pins near by and a place to stick them while sewing. Try it! You'll love it! Yolanda
