I Learned how to sew to get a Girl Scout merit badge. I have made Brides maid dresses, Prom Dresses, Halloween costumes, Curtains, Cushions, head boards, handbags, totes and Jackets. I made my first quilt when my daughter was born in 1978. I'm now a grandmother and enjoy making things for my grandchildren, children, friends and Family.

I have designed and made clothes since I was 8.
I started making things for money since I was 14.
I owned my own Bridal Shop for several years designing and making Wedding Gowns, and clothes for people with medical problems.
Very rewarding but never terribly profitable. I had clients all over the world. My problem was I always worried about their pocket books and not mine.

I started out sewing as a teen and continued when my children were little. Then got away from it while employed full time. Since returning to sewing I have gotten into quilting. Not very good at it, but I really enjoy it. I also sew gifts for family and friends and things for the house.

I have sewed since I was about 16. I sewed a lot of my own clothes when I was a senior in High School. Back then I could make a dress with 1 1/2 yards. lol Then as a young mother I sewed for my children. Now I sew for grandchildren but it is mostly quilts and mending.

I have always done my own mending and making of curtains and duvets. I have never been without a sewing machine in my home, I couldn't imagine not having one! I can't/wouldn't sew a garment from start to finish to save my life; high school Home Ec. class made sure of that. I HATE to sew garments and will not do it, I won't even look at a pattern.

I do a lot of custom work for a few select people, things that can't be purchased. Other than that, I strictly quilt or embroider on ready made items.

My DH gave me a sewing machine the first Christmas we were married (50 years this past May). His Mom could make anything and I think he expected the same of me. I gradually learned to make kids clothes, costumes, prom dresses, etc but nothing to compare to MIL. I currently make bags for the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana for patients to take home and use on their walkers (tie on and carry phones, books, etc.) I give them 25 a month and am 25 away from 2200. I use colorful prints so that gives me lots of scraps to use up. Just now planning to make lap quilts for nursing home residents in wheel chairs. Most clothing you can buy on sale as cheap as you can make it any more and can return it if it doesn't fit well or you don't like it.

Made clothes for myself as a teenager and on occasion for others. When I got married, I then made clothes/costumes for my children and now I just do gift items, charity stuff, handbags, little quick projects and the occasional quilt. I've done most of my own home dec. too (pillows, drapes/ curtains).

I learned to sew clothing when I was 9 or 10. I didn't make my first quilt until I was 30 and I haven't stopped yet. I still make the ocassional garment or purse for myself. I've made curtains, halloween costumes, clothing for my children and both myself and hubby. I've been sewing for about 44 years. I make mostly childrens charity quilts and Quilts of Valor now.
