It's a beautiful treadle base and top. Really a shame what happened to the machine. It looks like the needlebar and presser foot were painted too.

Cari if you get it, I'd be happy to help with cleaning off the paint.
I'd like to see the machine saved. You would probably enjoy treadling if you don't already have one.

EDIT: Sounds like crocee may know a solvent that will soften the paint but not the shellac.
It may be possible if that's the case.

It's tempting, but I just don't have any room for it. Really. Between my own machines and cabinets, machines being serviced(note to self- get off your butt and get them done) for other people, and the two cabinets that are supposed to go to other people I literally can't walk through my house without tripping over at least one. But wait- hmm....maybe if I get rid of the empty big treadle desk in the dining room. NO!!! Can't do it! Man, you guys are a bad influence on me, lol. Arguing with myself is giving me a headache.
