I'm in my 50s and have been sewing since i was four years old.

I use a tailor's thimble for everything but hand quilting. For hand quilting, I use a Thimble Lady cone finger thimble and the Thimble Lady thumb thimble.

I use a thimble on top index finger but nothing on the underside finger - have tried various thimbles, sticky dots etc. on underside but couldn't be sure how much of a "bite" of bottom fabric I was getting so now just tolerate the pricking!

Never been able to use one. They seem so clumsy to me.

I use a rubbery type of one. I think it's called a comfort thimble. I love it

I use one when I hand sew. I get holes in my finger when I don't

Usually I use a leather thimble. I only recently found a silver one (in a store) that fit just right. Actually, I my son was going to Wally World for something else, and he picked one up for me, and it fit perfectly. I was so pleasantly surprised. Now if I could just find it.

I would get so much more hand quilting done if I could learn to use a thimble. Just can't get over the awkward feeling. Boy I get some stellar callouses on the finger tips.

I don't use a thimble, not for quilting and not for sewing. I never got used to it.

I use the cone Thimble Lady one as well and love it. How is the thumb one? Do you also quilt away from yourself or do you use the thumb one for a different purpose?
