If I had the $$ I would definitely go for the 7700. Since I don't, I got the 6600 and it's been great for me so far (got it for mother's day).

Susan, You didn't say if your Viking was just for plain sewing or embroidery machine. I purchased my first Viking back in late 80's and traded up untill I could purchase Designer1. I love the Viking. If wasn't getting old I'd purchase the Diamond just to be able to do large designs for quilts. Some prefer other machines, just matter of taste I guess. I've never had a problem with them. Just a thought and wonder what you think of them? Rosalie

Love my Janome 6600 Memory Craft but I use a Janome 1600P for quilting on a table. It goes faster. I think they are called mid arms.
Good luck with whaterver you get.

I have the 6600 and my friend has the 7700. I cant justify the price for the 7700. Maybe Im too cheap but the 6600 has everything I want on it. I do not FMQ so the throat size is not that big of an issue for me. If the throat size was important I would get the 1600 and the 6600.

I bought my Janome 6600 2 weeks ago and just love her to pieces!!! I now get a perfect 1/4" and scant 1/4". This is my first Janome and I am very impressed with it.

I switched from Pfaff to the Babylock Espire and it has a larger throat (I think 9") Love the way she handles. I also have a Pfaff Grandquilter but it is a straight stitch only mechanical machine.

I have a quilt frame -- and I was thinking of getting the 1600 for quilting. Do you really like yours?
