I am surprised to hear this because I haven't had any trouble at either of the big chain improvement stores where I live, or at Hancocks or Michael's. Haven't returned anything at JoAnns, so wonder if it is regional? Store policy vs. corp. policy? No fun.

JoAnn's being sold? Haven't heard that but doesn't surprise me. It has less fabric and is starting to look more like a Michaels. Lots of new faces working there.

That's aweful... having to wait for a refund !!! Thanks for the heads up on their refund policy.. .makes me re- think any purchases. I would not feel comfortable giving back the item and having nothing in my hand when I left the store... even more uncomforatble getting the lack of response. I would feel very ... scammed.
I would call my BBB( Better Business Bureu).

Go to their website. There is a place on it called Contact us. Email them with the facts. Ask for a confirmation of receiving your email. Keep a copy of your email. Keep following up on it. Just my humble opinion but it really has worked for me.

JoAnn's is being bought by Leonard Green in LA. It's an equity firm. Sometimes they influx money into the companies they buy, sometimes they don't. The sales won't be approved until mid 2011. Go to JoAnn's site and to investor informatioin at the bottom of the home page.

Send them a Fax and you will have your own confirmation.

i wanted to buy an electric scissor sharpener (not in the same league as your purchase, but still expensive) and i asked if they would take it back if my scissor did not fit. they said that once it was opened they wouldn't take any merchandise back. it's time to get noisy in the store. the managers have more pull than they let on.

I thought a while back they had a sign that said that refunds over a certain $ amount would be issued by corporate check.

Could be mistaken...

It's possible that they do that so that they can audit large refund amounts, just to be sure that there aren't a few individuals who are scamming them. I suppose it would be possible to go into a store, pick up something, and then try to return it without a receipt (having never even paid for it).

'Course if you have the receipt in hand you wouldn't be scamming them...

Send a letter by snail mail to the president of the company. If your experience is like mine (with other chains), you'll get a response.

Even if your check arrives in the meantime, you can comment regarding the poor service from the corporation.

Sadly, the Contact Us button on most websites results only in a canned response.

Wow, I wouldn't left the store without my money in hand. I can't believe they expected you to wait.

I would have told them that when they let me take a product with the agreement that I will send my payment in two weeks later, then I'll go along with waiting for my refund. And not until.

Next time, you may want to use a credit card. I have returned a bunch of things to Joanns over the years and the money always shows up within a few days. Plus if it doesn't, Wells Fargo always immediately credits the purchase, no questions asked.
