I'm repeating myself (that's what happens when you run round in circles).... but my understanding is the quilt Jane Stickle made cannot be copyrighted because it's too old. So the blocks that make it up are public domain, meaning our tutorials on putting them together are legal.

What is copyrighted is the software, obviously, Brenda's book, and the name "Dear Jane".

I can understand putting printed files from the software on here could be a breach of the software terms. And we shouldn't be referring to "Dear Jane" without the appropriate copyright message, whatever that is.

But the rest of what we are doing is perfectly fine!!

they have concerns about copyright and don't want to risk any trouble.

we should respect their decision, as the PM says its not personal and i'm sure they didn't want to do it - they just don't want to risk anything.

i know that this comes on the brink of some very hard blocks/triangles.

we're allowed to chat about block construction but it can not have a tone of a tutorial.

we'll have to lean on other sites (that quilt and numerous other blogs) for their tutorials and then if we wish to discuss them here we'll have to do it in general terms.

If it was an informed decision, fine, but it's not, it's based on fear.

Well, we can refer to it as the JS quilt for a start, and the JS cyber block party. If we can't refer to the numbering system, we all have the original list or schedule, so we can refer to the week or date, and the first, second, third or fourth block respectively (or the triangle) for that week. That eliminates a good chunk of what is contained in the book. Would that help?

The numbering system is logical, I wouldn't think there'd be issues with that either.

I hope there is a nice solution to this dilemma! I want to know where to go for information. I would like to not have to change, but I don't want anyone to be involved in a lawsuit!
