Glenn started this. I'm going to show off my box. I took this to the mini TOGA that I attended in the spring, and one person came over to take a peek, thinking they had missed a Singer sewing item. They picked up the box and said OH!

I have been watching a New Home treadle for a few months on Craigslist. This guy was asking $200 to start with. He is down to $120 now. I sent him an e-mail offering him $50, which I didn't think he'd respond too, but he sent back an e-mail saying yes he'd take $50. I am excited to go see this machine. I don't have a New Home treadle and wanted one because those treadles are just so ornate looking. I will post pictures if I get the machine! I don't want another treadle to re-finish, though, I already have two cabinets I am working on, (one of those is just a simple sanding, staining, finishing for my 319W I bought from Candace) and two more sitting waiting to be worked on! http://sacramento.craigslist.org/atq/2660484756.html

Has anyone used the Style -O - Matic attachment? According to April 1930's site it is a handy little attachment ... a bit pricey too

Did someone tell you, you have an August 19, 1947 machine? The white powdery stuff is probably just the stuff they used to coat the wires under the machine. Just wipe it off - no big deal. Most of the old FW's have the same problem. There should only be one spool pin on top. I saw your pictures. The FW's are really mechanical marvels - so small - but, such great machines. That spool pin cover opens so you can oil and clean in there. There should be a screw holding it closed, though.

Are the manuals for the FW's downloadable? I don't have one and it wasn't among mom's stuff. The plate thing that moves with the thread on it looks like it should have 2 screws, but there is only a hole to screw one. I think the other one was busted off at some point. If I could figure out the name of the part I could probably buy another one.
Mom had a bunch, like 20, bobbins, all with a ton of holes in them. I think those are for the FW. There is one that doesn't have the holes. I don't know if it would go to her FW or not. Are there any tricks to tell the difference in sizes in the bobbins? I don't know what happened to the feet of the machine. There's only one on the machine and I can't find any other attachments. All I need is one to piece with cause that's what I'll be using her for. I need to go peruse the tutorials so I can find the one one cleaning, so I can clean her up.

I don't have one yet. There's one up on ebay right now - yes, I'm bidding. lol. Last one went for over $200 I believe. There is a web site that has pics from the manual alongside pics of the lady actually using hers on a machine. Looks fun. Yes, it's really hard to find. From about 1933... it was an expensive attachment to buy new, and discontinued after only a few years. (From what I'm told).
