I love the freezer paper method. I had a hard time with needle turn applique and then I found freezer paper and fell in love. I applique a lot now and this is the only method I use. I also use three layers of freezer paper. Cookie cutters are great but I also like using my GO cutter. Especially if I want multiple shapes say for doing leaves or flowers. I simple fuse my three layers together and then run them through my go cutter.

ok ladies, could you explain what you said a bit more? guess I an still half asleep.

#1 thew applique, is the shiny side up, do you iron the pattern on it then sew it onto fabric? would love to know. I am still learning a lot here, so any help will be greatly appreciated!

I am not sure how the others do it..and since I am a beginner this is what I do..I put the freezer paper shiny side down onto the back(wrong side) of the fabric..Cut out the shape, remove the paper and than sew it onto the main block that I am doing..I look forward to seeing how everyone else is doing it..especially since I am having a very hard time getting the fabric seams turned under..I know that I am doing something wrong, just got to figure it out I am doing a butterfly and flower quilt using the freezer paper and so far so good with the cut out patterns..They are nice and stiff and easy to work with..

I layer 3 sheets together and press with the iron. this makes for a thicker sheet. Next I trace my design on to the flat (non shiny) side in reverse of how I want it to be. Next iron it to your fabric shiny side down. I then cut out my design 1/4" larger than the freezer paper. Next I use liquid starch and water and apply it to the edges and then fold them over the freezer paper and iron with my clover mini iron. This will set the edges so that when you remove the freezer paper your applique has finished edges that you just need to sew down. Also I don't pin my applique in place I use elmers glue. Just a tiny dot and then iron and it will stay in place. the glue washes right out when you are finished. Hope this helps

I like working with freezer paper too. Makes my quilting life a whole lot simpler. And (IMHO) there's nothing better for signature blocks.

I use freezer paper all the time for applique', paper piecing, feeding fabric in my printer for photo printing, and quilting templates. I just ordered another pack of 8-1/2 X 11 sheets of freezer paper
