It appears they want the sports team quilt - not sure why they want "girly." My first born was a girl and we are big sports fans (Chargers, Padres and Aztecs) Luckily she came out with the same interests and she was dressed in the little outfits and the quilts that are not feminine. We don't look at the sports items as belonging to the male interest only.

Hope they tell you what they really want.

I was given dog fabric and did brown and pink. Looked great, girly and modern.

Pattern idea one - this one 2 focal fabrics and you could use a pink background.
    This second idea might work

Looks like the quilt is for Grandpa.

Apparently they want the quilt to be 'girly' so the Dad doesn't use it. I'm not capable enough in applique to chance it on someone else's quilt. I don't like lace on a baby quilt. Not sure how to do this one yet.

Boy what a challenge! They couldn't have given you any LESS Girly fabric than if they tried!! The only think I can think of is to use the BQ pattern with the two focus fabrics for the large squares. Then use black or light blue as the large background and a dark pink for the lines. Then, go to town on the back with girly pink fabrics pieced together to make a nice backing. Even a pink ruffle around the outside might help.
Here is a photo of my BQ quilt with the photography/travel theme, but I think you can visualize it with your fabrics.

    Default Reversible quilt!

Couple ideas: Use their fabric on one side of the quilt - yep, stick a penquin applique on that side - and make the other side girly any way/colors you want (after the fabric they gave you, I wouldn't ask for additional input!)... or

Gold gingham sashing/borders; flat white eyelet lace with gold satin ribbon running through it (topstitch that ribbon in place); ruffled fabric edge... black or gray gingham/ribbons might work to girly it up, as well.

    Best of luck

I agree with tartan, I don't have a clue how you're supposed to make that "girly". What in the world are the grandparents thinking?
