I've been using Craftsy's Boundless thread lately - 50 wt. Seems comparable to Mettler, which I like, but less expensive. I also use 50 wt. Aurifil, especially to quilt with.

Aurifil, Connecting Threads, and Craftsy all make 50 wt thread. Connecting Threads is a bit more linty than the others and you have to clean the bobbin area a few more times, but I wouldn't hesitate to purchase any of these threads. Have used Gutterman for whip stitching my bindings a few times, but for anything else the small spools are expensive.

Also Aurifil 50 wt for piecing...I purchase the large cones and love it when I find a sale.

This is my favorite brand too ever since Harriett Hargrave recommended it in a class I took from her. Another benefit is that since it is so thin more thread can be wound on your bobbin meaning fewer bobbin changes.

I buy it online in cones. It is expensive, but the cones last a very long time. Here is a website that I have used in the past to buy it: https://redrockthreads.com/presencia...0wt-thread.asp

At our guild's Christmas party we were given a gift spool of Connecting Threads Essentials. I can't wait to use it up. I have to clean the lint out of my machine two or three times between bobbin changes. Who knows how much buildup of lint has occurred deeper in the machine where I can't get to it. If I'm ever given another spool of it , I'll give it away.

Aurifil, Connecting Threads, and Craftsy all make 50 wt thread.
Big difference. Aurifil is 50 wt 2 ply Egyptian long staple. Connecting threads is 50 wt 3 ply extra long staple cotton Craftsy is Pima cotton. Masterpiece use to be 2 ply 50 wt but is now 3 ply 50 wt. extra long staple cotton. The manufacturing process and the length of the cotton fibers determines the quality of thread.

I use Signature since it available in a local shop, and reasonably priced. I also like Aurifil, especially the 60 wt. for my minis. Mettler is another fave.

I agree with Aurafil. I find it to be less linty which means I don't have to stop as much to clean out the bobbin area and under the throat plate. Less cleaning = more time for quilting!

Aurifil is not 50/3 it is 50/2.

That is a major difference in thread. The ply means how many strands of thread are wound to make one continence strand. The more ply then the thicker the thread.
