From the first post, the one on the right. From the second post, the one on the left. I don't agree that the one in the second post loses the pattern, at least not how it shows up on my screen.

I definitely like the one on the right in your first set of pics. Do you know the name of the pattern for the original braid design? I don't have EQ but would like to get the pattern with instructions for one of these. Thanks

I love the one on the right, just seems that your eye follows it better. Can't wait to see it done!

I love the one on the right (in the first post). It just looks cleaner, sharper and more impressive. Don't really feel much for the second post. I just think they're not as "striking" as the one on the right - first post!

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it:)

My vote goes to the one on the right.
More pleasing to the eye.

Ok, it's the one on the right! :) I just got the pieces cut for the first braid and came downstairs to make some coffee. I'll post the braid when it's done.

The pattern is called French Braid. It's an old traditional pattern, I believe. I got a book, French Braid Quilts by Jane Hardy Miller. There's not much to it other than knowing the size of the pieces.

Here is a standard braid. I didn't find a free french braid pattern online when I searched real quick. http://www.quilterscache.com/B/BraidBlock.html

I like how the darks come out of the dark center and get lighter but, that one my eye just wants to stay right across the center of the quilt. With the light next to the dark center, it looks like it opens it up and makes the eye travel with it.

Also, there are more strips than in this EQ7 picture. There are 4 whites 4 reds, and 4 blacks.
I really like the one on the right!

I like the one on the left best!

oops, just saw you posted that you are making the one on the right. I like that one too, but for some reason I saw the one on the left first then my eye was drawn to it. Please post pics when you get it done.
