A few years ago I was in LQS and a young man was having some decals sown on while waiting...the only other man in there went over to him and thanked him for his service...I thought that was so nice and now I do it, never thought of it before...

the south end of Hburg is Camp Shelby, where 100,000 men have come to before going to Iraq. Therefore our Walmarts are full of soliders/guards...I thank one every chance I get. So far they all have appreciated it. President Bush suggested we do this. I also get thier name and tell them I will pray for their safe return.

There are many ways to say thank you and I have read all but one way. Months ago in an email. it stated that one way to thank a soldier (is not wanting to speak, bashful, or whatever) is to place their right hand over their heart and just nod. And then I also heard that one should wear a red shirt on Fridays for the brave men of the United States. Yea, my hand is on my heart and my red shirt is ironed. God bless them.

dh was always surprised when he was thanked, but that was in the early 80's and people didn't do it as readily...
then he would say "i get to fly a zillion dollar jet faster than the speed of sound & drop bombs on things & blow them up...maybe i should thank him / her for paying their taxes so i can have such a good time."
i always make sure to thank them.. because it is the land of the free, because of the brave.

Ya'll would be really surprised at how little money these kids have. It makes me want to cry.The military pays them almost nothing.

Our grateful American Government pays them so magnificently that most of them qualify for food stamps. Then recently some nut in the white house actually wanted to make them pay for their own medical care, "because they were volunteers and knew just what they were getting into."
Yes, I'm an old lady but I will continue to buy a meal or a snack or whatever I can afford for these marvelous young folks.
