Some days mine gets totally out of hand. I jump from one project to the next. Theres always 5 or 6 differnt things going on in there. Usually by about the weekend I'm ready to clean it up. The only bad thing is that most people who enter my home enter through the door in my sewing room because it used to be the garage and its just easier the way the driveway and house are set up, we use that door most. So I'm appologizing for my mess before even saying hello.

I finally got my honey to help me clean out my fabric closet...it's almost put away, then he ditched me and started whining about "what's for dinner, I'm hungry" so there's about 10 minutes of stuff left to put away and then I can get back to work!

I had the opposite thought: get rid of the large furniture and add storage for fabric. I've used the Closet Maid stuff that's in Home Depot. All my fabric is on foam board at two heights, and there's a door to minimize dust on the fabric.

I kicked the kids of the den/game room and said it's mine or I take one of your bedrooms. This was about three months after I started quilting! I've had a dedicated sewing room ever since. I had a wall and door added to the open room and when we got ready to sell, the wall and door was easy to take out to open the room back up, but the new owners wanted it left there so the den noise wouldn't be all over the house. Said it was the reason they bought the house the rooms were to themselves and not open great rooms like all the other houses. Our house sold in 2 weeks. I told DH having a sewing room paid off so there!

How about just using those rooms for a permanent sewing room?

My wife had a small bedroom for a sewing room, and every time her friends came by, everyone ended up crowding into her small sewing room to see her latest projects. Even when it was just the two of us here, we were usually both in the sewing room visiting or watching TV. So...

We had most of our sewing machine collection in the livingroom anyway, so one day in October 2009, we turned our entire living room (13' x 18') and dining room (10' x 10') into 334 square feet of sewing room. We now have a sewing room with a small parlor area (loveseat, 2 recliners, & TV) and a snack nook (the dining table and chairs pushed into a corner). The dining table also doubles as a cutting and layout table. We still use the walk-in closet in the old bedroom sewing room for supplies and fabric storage.

We’ve enjoyed our new “sewing room” greatly. Of course, you could consider our entire home a sewing room really. We have 33 machines in our house, counting storage rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms, including 10 cabinets and treadles. Thirteen of the machines are up and running whenever needed. The rest are awaiting our attention.

If my husband would learn to sew it would be awesome. He has no interest whatsoever. I think he would really enjoy it but he refuses to even consider it. He isn't a very creative person.
