I seem to remember grandpa putting milk jugs full of water in the yard to keep them away, but I don't know why or how it worked, but his yard always looked like a golf course. Maybe this will help? If not, call your county extension agent, and ask them. That is one of the things they do.

My mole experience (tough no solution for you here)
One time I was walking one of the basenjis out front, and she kept tilting her head, like she was listening to the ground. She kept doing that, and moving along like the sound was moving. We finally figured out she was listening to the moles. In fact, I just cleaned a dead one off the deck. They kill them, but they don't eat them. They are called the 'dog for people who like cats!'
A few years ago the neighbor lady then, who I called 'city girl,' told me how she saw a huge snake (fox snake) and she called the exterminator and got rid of it. A month or sp later, she was complaining about all the mole hills they had.
Well duh, you killed their natural predator!

Funny you say that about the opossums. I have a Jack Russell, too. Today he got a opossum and a big old rat. Don't have moles here in Florida, to much sand.
