I have a brother and nephew in RI one in Tiverton and one in Sommerset!!! My best friend is in Layfette MD. So very worried for them and every single person on the coast line. Prayers for all!!! Be Safe!!!!

Get kitty litter, turn off the water to the commode, flush to get rid of the water, put a plastic bag in the hole and put in kitty litter, not too much at one time, just enough to handle "your job," You decide how to dispose of it. Put dry ice in the top of your fridge. It is small and hold, the cool.

I have family in NC and friends that are in the projected path. 2 daughters and their families and a granddaughter with her family. I just had to put them in the hands of the Lord. I will be talking to them today to make sure they are all set to be together and I may not be able to talk to them for a few days. I also have a son and grandchildren in Virginia Beach/

This is a facinating conversation. I live in tornado and ice storm land with an ocassional blizzard tossed in now and again. All of the prep you do, should be the same things we do, but we often don't, because we think we are invincible. Well, I don't but many do. Thanks for the good reminders. I like the comment about paying for camping and you get to do it at home! Sure is the truth. May a fine meal has been prepared in the fireplace while the ice and snow tap at the doors and windows and the furnace shivers from the lack of electricity.

To all of you in the path of Irene, I will be praying that the storm doesn't do as much damage as they are predicting.
Here in mid America we do not have the hurricanes, but the tornado's do horrible damage in this part of our world. Floods also happen pretty regularly along the rivers, don't know if the news covers the horrible flood along the Missouri River this year. There has been flooding for the last months and some will not be able to return to their homes until Nov or Dec. Interstates and roads have been torn up and lots of businesses etc have been completely destroyed. Many have flood water covering their entire homes for months and everything will be destroyed by the time the water goes down.
Take care, buckle down and if your in danger from water surge, move inland.

We live in Long Beach, NY which is a barrier beach island (sandbar) that is 7/10 of a mile wide at the widest point. At the moment it looks like we are going to take a direct hit. The city's emergency phone system called last night to advise us to begin to make evacuation plans while the television showed the county executive saying that mandatory evacuation is likely.
I am planning to take my computer and two of my machines with me as well as a project to sew by hand (haha) We are going to my sister's house and I'm sure she will not be extremely happy about all the extra stuff.
I am moving the best of my stash to the second floor which may or may not be a good idea depending on whether or not th roof blows off. . I have no illusions about our house being here when we return if we do, indeed, experience a direct hit. We live in a little cottage built in 1922.
I am, at the moment, feeling a little ill with nerves. Might not be a bad idea to zip over to my doctor to see if I can get a script for some xanax!
It will be what it will be. It's all in God's hands now.

HI all sending prayers to all those in the path of Hurricane Irene, I have a daughter and her family out in CT and brother in NJ not to mention lots of friends in the East,, stay safe and don't do anything foolish, I have been in a couple of these and just know that water, candles and flashlights are a big help as well as b ars of cereal type things and canned tuna, chicken, fruit... things like that... Just stay safe.....Will be praying for you all.
