I looked through some "natural quilts" on-line and saw a beautiful pale blue background with all shades of shells - it was beautiful. That is what I think of when I think of nature - and what is more natural that the ocean and shales? Please let us when what you come up with. I always look forward to seeing the completed quilt of someone who requests suggestions from the Quilting Board members.

I'd stay away from brown. Neutrals are creams. beiges, whites etc. Anything that will let you use any other color you want to decorate with. Anythng will go with them,

lovspaper - I agree with you 100%. For a "pop of color" I'd use a 2" strip of a rich dark brown as the first border to frame the center of the quilt

You might also want to find out if their tastes are more modern or traditional. The answer to that will also help you make something pleasing to them.

And one other thought I had: just because the house is painted/decorated in neutral doesn't mean your quilt should be...

Imagine a "neutral" living room, with a rich, jewel-toned lap quilt thrown over the sofa.... or those yummy earthy rich colors-- like eggplant, teal, burgundy...

I agree using browns tans taupe and there is a pattern which is stunning using 3 or 4 colors, its called flatbread. makes into a beautiful quilt and fast. One has bee posted on the board.
