You got it! I'm so happy for you! The cabinet was a horror story and I am amazed at your work cleaning it up! It looks beautiful now! That is some good solid work and your lovely lady is sitting in style now.

That is beautiful wood. Why people messed them up by painting them I just can not understand.

My Singer 24 came in a painted treadle base. We thought about trying to take it back to the original finish but there appeared to be several layers of yellowed white paint so we decided against it. I am like you, Joe, I just don't know why people would paint these beautiful old cabinets.

What a gorgeous machine. I would have plunked down a large chump of change for this beauty.

What a gorgeous machine! (As someone else put it, the strip-tease of the cabinet was well worth the wait.) The cabinet alone is amazing in what you all accomplished, but this beautiful lady is stunning. Thank you for all the photos!

It looks like Mother of Pearl inlays? That is one gorgeous machine and now it can shine in the beautifully refinished cabinet. I am thinking it most have originally been a special order machine because I have never seen one as fancy as that.

So very glad I decided to read through this thread. I cannot think of good enough words to say about your restoration and the machine itself except to say I covet the whole piece! Thanks for the step by step postings. Lovely to see how it all came about. I also want to know if the inlays are MOP. That's surely what they look like. You must either be very lucky, very good (or bad as the case may be!), or live in the right part of the country to find the gems you end up with. It's good they do end up in your hands though since you take such good care of them. And she sews too ..... it doesn't get any better than that does it?
