My hair is short so I go once a month and she charges me $20. I wash it myself and go home with it wet and style it myself. I give a 20% tip which is %4. Why are some of you giving such large tips?

I have very short hair and get it cut every 4 weeks. This is a rural area and I pay $15 plus tip. I wash it myself before I go and I am out of there in 30 minutes.

It's in the $45 range here. That is my one true splurge. I stretch it out to 6 weeks or more. But when it's cut well, I don't have to do a thing to my hair until the next wash, which as my hair gets older and dryer, 5 or 6 days. I have been going to the same stylist forever and she does a great job. So to me it's worth it, and I'm worth it. However, I do cut my husband's hair (he's so picky) and I do do my own color.

I was paying $38.00. A new place opened up on the other side of the island (18 miles). I will travel there. They are charging $12.00! Like you, my hair is short and I just have it cut, nothing else.

A salon I go to has a punch card and after 6 SS you get a free haircut. Great marketing! Works for me!!!

$60.00 in the city - average $35.00 - $40.00 in the burbs. Ridiculous - I totally agree.

I think I pay about $35.00 for a hair cut. My hair is very difficult to cut and I have had too many BAD hair cuts to take a chance on someone cheaper.

I made the appointment and then called back and canceled. I will not pay this. I'll cut it myself. I already went to "washing that gray right out of my hair" MYSELF... What about where you live?
I forgot to add that you have to tip... and I'm always a big tipper at restaurants. But....!?!?

Nope! Won't do it. I go to Great Clips and get my hair cut for $10 (senior citizen price) and no appointment. Takes me 20 minutes at the most counting waiting in the lobby for maybe 5 minutes. I wash it before I go and hair spray it when I get home. Works for me. And I don't like chemicals on my body so I won't do anything with any gray that happens along. I would rather be healthy and have money for quilting fabric than spend it on expensive salon visits. I am just not that vain.
I don't have a vain bone in my body left! lol Never was into fashion, etc.
