I want to be on one of those HGTV shows where a designer comes in and fixes rooms that are awful. My sewing room is also a playroom for grandchildren, and has books, toys, and even a huge plastic house in it. I almost have nowhere to work.

Mine is closet-size, so not exactly comfortable or inviting at all. I sewed in the lounge (dining room / living room) a few months ago while there was work going on in the house and loved it, but dh hated having my clutter appear in his space so I had to go back.

I need more surfaces to keep things on, there's only my cutting mat and ironing board since the machine takes up its table, so naturally everything has to move to one surface when I have to use the other. Chaos is the result, and not the organised kind!

I have been working on my combo office, sewing and spare bedroom, I just had my dh remove the clothes bar from the closet and put in shelves!! what a difference, all the tubs will be hidden in a closet, one shelf will be my idea layout. I wonder what my sister will think when she comes to stay and she will have no place to hang her clothes. I guess I am sticking to the old adage, "never make your guests too comfortable because like fish they stink after 3 days!"

    OMG...

the door would have to be quickly closed if anyone ventured upstairs to that area.......

Please remain downstairs where one can maneuver around !!

I am one also who is driven crazy by clutter. I am new to quilting, but since I started, I made a habit to clean and tidy up after every project, it is not hard for me since I only work on one project at a time. I clean and oil my sewing machine, change the needle, organize the scraps from the project and dust and clean.

It is a bit of work, but I enjoy organizing, and my sewing area (mostly) remains clutter free and inviting.

I do my sewing and quilting in my bedroom. My daughter who is kinda like a clean freak hates going into my room. She gets so upset because it is always so cluttered with quilting magazines and material and stuff here and there and everywhere. She keeps telling me that she is going to make me a craft room in the basement (when they finish) the basement that is. Well, I'm 63 years old now and it hasn't happened yet, so until it does ha ha, I will continue to work in my bedroom. I have a little craft table next to my be with my sewing machine on, with my cutters, measuring tapes, pencils etc. I have an ironing board set up for when I have to iron seams or even use it for cutting on. Lately, she's stopped going in my room, which is better for me. I don't have to hear her complain arout how disorganized or cluttered it is. All the other parts of the house is hers, my bedroom is mine. OFF LIMITS!

I sew in my bedroom, and it definately screams "clean me" most of the time... Sometimes it takes so long to clean that I'm not inspired to sew after!

When I do get rid of the clutter and sew, I do have to clean up the project I'm working on, otherwise there would be no space to move, and that would bug me!

My sewing room is always neat. Can't stand clutter, I put rulers away after I finish using them. After sewing I put my nips away, my box of pins. As I sew and trim threads they go straight to the trash. After I finish with a project the fabric goes back into the bin or scrap box. I have pictures on the wall and a small quilt hangs on the wall at my sewing machine.
In homemec we were told 'a place for everthing,
and everything in its place'. And I have continued this throughout my house, sewing room included.
