Exactly! You get what you pay for!

Ok, thanks for all of your responses. To add some more information....

No I didn't ask for an estimate ahead of time.
    My quilt is 88 x 96 inches.
She provided the batting, I provided the backing.
The pattern is a very loose meander.
Oh...and I live in Northern Wisconsin in a very rural area and this quilt shop is the only LA quilter in 80 miles...maybe that's why she charges more.
I am very happy with the quilting, it looks nice, I was just shocked at the price.

Sorry but for a queen size and simple meander that is too much.

What kind of batting? Poly or Cotton? The cotton for the quilt on my frame right now is going to cost me $45.
    What kind of thread?
Did she bind it or did you?

That could be $30 for batting, and 2 cents per square inch... I don't think that is unreasonable for a rural area. If you're happy with the quilting, I would chalk it up to experience, and enjoy your quilt! Think of it as 50 cents per day for the first year you use it, and then all the future years of comfort with it are a bonus.

It is amazing to see the variance in pricing. It makes it hard to know whats reasonable for your area.

thanks for the additional info. I feel you more than likely paid too much. There are several exceptional LAQ here on the board. Even with the shipping to and from, you could probably get a better deal and be just as happy if not happier with the job.

Here is a link to participating board members who LA seperated by location http://www.quiltingboard.com/members...s-t169702.html. Many of us post pictures on a regular basis to see our work. Don't limit yourself by the person in your area. USPS one rate boxes include package tracking and you can watch your quilt going and coming.

I am in the Thumb of MI and that was my cost for a queen T-shirt quilt and batting. The quilting pattern was a modern geometric design that was closely quilted compared to a meander.
So it is location-location on the quilting cost.

I live on Long Island NY and have started long arming for pay in the past year. The charge you mention is very reasoable around here. I recently charged $225 for a queen, some meandering, some custom. Customer supplies batting and backing, no binding. I talked it over with the client beforehand, no surprises for either one of us. Different pricing for different sizes and work. I don't charge by the inch, rather what time I think it will take. Not looking to get rich, just earn fabric money.
