Reading all these posts makes me wish I had been able to read them before I purchased my Ellegante...but it is a great machine when it is working.

Look at dealers nearest you and see if any feel right as they are the ones you can turn toward when you have problems. I love Janome machines!! Good luck!

I like my dealer just fine...except...my machine quit after I just picked it up and I cannot take it in because.. get this...the store is closed for two days for a "special event"...Anita Gooddesign...an embroidery event...if only.

If you get a new machine, they are now going to flash drives to transfer files. Much cheaper than the old boxes. You would be better off in the long run with a new model.

If you are just getting into embroidery, consider the costs of the threads and stabilizer too. It is NOT a cheap hobby.

For designs, yes, you can purchase those cards from the machine company----very expensive. But if you have a way to take them to the machine from the computer, there are many low cost and free designs available on the internet.

I got into embroidery blind. I had no idea that I needed more equipment and softwear after I purchased the machine.

I also entered into embroidery blind. I wish I knew upfront all the extras that I would need & had done my homework. Asking the QB is a great start. I love my Janome 9700 but I wonder if I would have bought the same thing if I did my homework first.
