OHHHHH, there is nothing wrong with that top. I thought I was going to see something really AWFUL. The older folks just didn't have the fabrics that we have today so they didn't have much choices. Plus spending money on JUST fabric was unheard of back them. They cut the goodie parts out fo old clothes they could no longer use and stuff like that. If the workmanship is good then there is NO ugley top. Quilt the dang thing and make it a gift back to her. BUT, I promise you, It will grow on you.

I really like it ! Wish someone would give me one like that ! I agree that it's better without the border.

I actually like it. Maybe it's because I am old and can remember some of those fabrics.

This year, my sister gave me a quilt top my mom must have made. it was log cabin and it was anything but straight. I hand quilted it for her and it turned out to be nice after quilting. she loved it. go ahead and quilt it. I would ask her if she would like to have it back since it's finished. if not, keep it for the sake of family. you might come to appreciate it.

Wonderful collection of period fabrics. Just enjoy it. You never know, in years to come, you may look at it and think lovingly how much she liked you. After all she trusted you with it.

Back then most of the quilters tied them , I think that would set it off, maybe even a black border :)

I think it is cute, but scrappies are practically all I do.

Even if it is a tradional block quilt I will use various shade of blue, cream, etc.
