I also prefer to tye a quilt over machine quilting. Sort of depends on the blocks which one I do to finsh my quilts. I have tied many larger baby quilt (closer to a lap size) so the child can grow into it some are now over 15 plus years and have been washed, dragged and misused but still have held up actually far better then the ones machine quilted. I have always used a square knot which have not untied.

This pdf might help those who are wanting to tye using either a square or surgeon knot: http://www.covidien.com/imageServer....pplication/pdf

Also I am interested in the name of the book!

This made me lol. Actually, so many of us are waiting for the person who started this to return home and check on the book title. Will certainly be a run on Amazon when she does give it to us.

I have quilts over 50 years old that have been washed and washed. I tie all my quilts. When my son had a baby my mom made a quilt with hand embroidery on it (all very pretty) She sent it to a LA to be quilted. He called and thanked her and then said "could you make her a real quilt tho" LOL
My dad made a very simple frame Just 4 pieces o 2 X2's I stretch my quilts across that tight so they come up very "puffy" and comfortable. Maybe cost $10.00 at the most. My hands are getting crippled and I could NEVER hand quilt.
Thank you so much for your helpful post. I along with probably several others, say thank you, thank you, thank you!

Gramma K just looked at the oklee page, liked their prices. Has anyone ordered the 108" blenders from them, and how do you see the colors to choose from?

Another reason to tie them is, a lot of them used a wool batting. When the cover was worn they would remove it, fluff the wool up and put a new cover on it. Tieing kept the wool fluffed and it was easy to take the ties out. The wedding quilt we received in 1961 was a wool batting tied. It has been recovered at least twice since then.
