Default Batting Scraps

How Large of a batting piece do you save?
I seem to be getting a large reserve and want to cull the bucket.
I use them for coasters, bibs, placemats, etc...

I save any size that I can use. My friend does the Quilt as you Go so I save her anything 6.5".

scraps can always be pieced together. there is also a tape to use to connect pieces with an iron. Can also save scraps to use for filler for a pillow or stuffed animal.

I don't save anything less than 12" square. I only piece scraps that are at least 12"-18" wide and a yard long for quilts however. The smaller pieces I save for smaller non-quilt projects like you. My preference is not to have more than 4 pieces of batting sewn together for a quilt. Sewing batting together is a chore that I dread!

I don't save any strips smaller then 2 inches to zig zag together but I do cut my little pieces up into smaller pieces to use for stuffing for pin cushions and such. My zig zagged strips are then cut into squares for pot holders.

I save probably strips that are 5-6" wide x maybe 18" long at least? I zigzag them together to put into doll quilts or to make practice sandwiches for FMQ.

I give the pieces a zz stitch on my machine and use one ply toilet paper for foundation then tear it off.

I save some 3 or 4" strips, incase I need to add a small strip down a side or across a batting I need to use.
I have sewn strips of poly batting together, to use in a quilt sandwich. I have made three or quilts like that, it has been a while. Not my favorite activity but, those scraps cost as much as the bigger piece did. I used up a lot and cleared the storage area for more batting.

I cut the cotton scraps to fit on my swiffer. Works well on my wood laminate & tile floors.
