Default Spiral-Eye Needle Problem

Hi everyone, I just got one to try, a size 8. Looked perfect for my hand hexie work but having problems.
It won't stay threaded and it shreds the thread. I'm using a 50 wt cotton thread.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Susie

I am not familiar with the needle you are using .... however, my first thoughts would be to try a polyester thread and see if it is more successful for you.

Are you talking about the ones like this?

I thought the spiral eye needles were meant more for working ends in than regular stitching.... I love them for working in ends but haven't tried using them for regular stitching, as I didn't think they were designed to be used for that sort of work.

For any hand work I use a general sewing needle..no thought to size/style. If the thread is a challenge to thread through the eye of the needle, yes, you will probably have issues with shredding, etc. Honestly, I've also never paid attention to what weight thread I am using for any hand sewing (or machine sewing for that matter) as long as it is the color closest to what I am looking. I normally hand quilt so only really pay attention to using specific 'hand quilting' thread for that purpose. Otherwise, as long as it holds two pieces of fabric together...I'm good!

Although it does say that the inventor created them for sewing on buttons.

SusieQOH ... why not go direct to the contact in the link that GemRM has provided?
If anyone has the answer, she should!

Thanks, everyone. Maybe it's not for hand sewing. I thought it was.
Yes, it's the spiral eye.

I'll see if they can guide me further on the website.

Please let us know what you find out!

Another thought .... again, I haven't used these, but have used the other straight sided types and they have been no problem for hand sewing, when I have used them in that way.

QuiltE- I don't know what you're referring to. I emailed her and will let you know.
It's not the end of the world- but I just thought it would be so easy not to have to worry about threading a needle the way I usually do.
What "straight sided" types do you mean?

Actually the thread is not a problem for a regular needle. I just wanted to try this one.
