Default Surprised with my fabric package when it arrived

I ordered from a place that I do quite a bit of ordering from. Usually my fabric comes neatly folded, in a protective bag or plastic wrapping, and then in a box that is the actual size needed and not over large. My orders are usually 10 + yards or more as this is background fabric and I like to keep a lot on hand.

I don't know what happened this time, but I placed an order for 15+ yards and it was kind of folded, but folded so much it was basically a ball. This is a lot of fabric to do that with and it now has so many wrinkles and creases all through it. It was sent in a white plastic mailing envelope and had been taped up - basically with what looked like an entire roll of tape, over and over like someone was using the tape like they were winding it like a yarn ball. It took me a bit of time and struggle to even get it open as I didn't want to nip the fabric with the scissors. What was wrong with these people? Would it have hurt to put it in a box with a little bit of room so it didn't crease up so much.

I won't name the company (a well know one at that), as this is the first time this has happened with them. But it was a lot of money to get this fabric, to have it shipped this way. What the heck! I was truly dumbfounded when it was dropped off at my door, I actually wondered at first who had sent me the oversized volley ball until it dawned on me a second later that it was the fabric I had ordered. It amazed me that, that amount of fabric could be crunched up that tightly.

this is the second time in recent weeks that fabric I have ordered from two different places were shipped so carelessly. I wonder if this is a sign of how the orders from this company are going to arrive from now on. If so, I'm definitely going to shop elsewhere. Is anyone else seeing this with their orders.

If it was me, I'd let them know how bad a job they did & further insist that it be replaced with a properly packaged order.

Oh nooo! I am sorry this happened to you. During covid, I had this happen to me when I ordered Yarn. I ordered 10 skeins.
It usually comes neatly packed in a clear plastic bag and placed in a box. To my surprise, there was a few skeins without the label that comes wrapped around the yarn. One was wound into a messy ball with a loose end all frayed. 2 skeins were not the same yarn...just random yarn in the grey color I ordered, but different yarn company label and different thickness. I had to return the order. The company explained that during covid, they had inexperienced employees filling the orders.

If this happens to you on another order, do take pictures of everything, the way it is packaged and the contents inside and contact the company, being able to send them pictures. I have not had this problem with fabric orders, but I did purchase a sewing machine online and when it arrived at the P.O. where I had to pick it up, because they wanted me to see all the damage to the box before it left the P.O. I don't know how the machine even got this far. The sewing machine itself was amazingly fine, the case was broken. I took all pictures there, including opening the box in front witness, sent all to the Seller and was reimbursed for the purchase and informed to just keep the machine. It really does pay to go through the process, some companies are very understanding when you have visual proof. Good luck next time.

Others have posted great information. Taking pictures and letting the company know the condition of the material are good ideas. That is a terrible way to treat fabric.

I'm with the others, I'm so sorry this happened and you should let the company know. Take pictures any time a package arrives wrong, preferably starting before you open it. Even without pictures, let the company know...

Is a shame this happened from a company that you trusted.

I don't often order fabric but I recently got some and mine arrived in lovely condition -- I would have felt really bad to receive what you did and at the price paid plus shipping.

It amazes me how some companies ship orders to customers. Don't they have various sized shipping envelopes, boxes, bags etc? One size does not fit all in these circumstances. It bugs me when I order a single large cone of thread and it comes in a box that could fit 10 cones inside. Or those that use an abundance of shipping tape to secure the package, so that you can't even cut the bag open safely without threat of damageing the contents. More is not always better.

I'm with all the others -- let the company know now....don't wait for it to happen again. I'm getting frustrated with ordering online from shops that use the postal service. I've had too many packages taking the scenic route through the US before reaching my destination. One left Texas, went through New England before coming to Maryland, adding almost a week for shipping. When I complained to the store, they did refund my shipping charges even though it wasn't their fault.

I just received my order from Quiled Twins for 3yds each of 3 different backings 108" wide. I knew it would come in a white plastic bag, a thick bag so not too likely to get ripped open. In fact I think it was a bag within a bag so when I sliced thru the 1st layer I didn't have to worry too much about snagging the fabric with my scissors. The fabric is rolled like it just came off a bolt, then folded in half neatly so very little wrinkling. I'm happy with how Quilted Twins ships their fabrics and of course their prices are great also.

I wonder if the packaging was damaged in shipment and rewrapped by the shipper. I've gotten boxes and bags from ebay shippers that the PO had to mend to keep the stuff inside.
