Default I wanted an early Singer 15 . . .

But I think I went one step too early. This one has no bobbin winder, and no holes for the belt guard, but does have a boss for a hand crank, so maybe the bobbin winder was part of that.

There is another listed - someone asked "does it come with a bobbin case" and the seller responded - "no"
but it shows the same as this picture LOL!!

I like the detail around the emblem

The serial number is on the back, and dates this machine to 1883.

What I really want is the one referred to as the 15-1, or the IF that is a model later than this one by a few years. Of course, I didn't realize there was a difference when I bought this one.

I was after a "project machine" but this one may be too nice for that - again . . .

And my other recent purchase - my sister picked them up for me yesterday. 57 of them for $150. My sister is a power seller on eBay, she did some checking and said I may be able to sell a few and recoup my cost. I bought them for sewing machine attachment boxes. They are silverware cases.

After looking at more pictures, it appears the belt guard attaches at that point on the pillar. I was looking for holes in the bed, and there are none.

Very nice machine and cases Cathy! I don't know the specifics but didn't some of the early 15s take a different bobbin case than most? No such thing as too early. It just means you have one of the earliest gaps in your collection of 15s filled now and I love the decals on that one.
The cases should be perfect for your plans. I just wonder how someone ends up with that many cases and no silverware in them.

singer named these improved family. to this day have no clue where 15 - 1 came from. internet slang ??

That mount on the under the hand wheel is the bobbin winder mount.. it doesn't use a bobbin case, maybe we should say the case and hook is one piece, it's in there so is the bobbin..

to get the bobbin out. roll it over till the bobbin is down. stick a finger nail at the screws and under the face, then flip the entire face up and over to the left. in other word the whole face is hinged flips over to the side

I think you'll find the belt guard / hand crank clamp on the round boss behind the hand wheel

Like 10X said, this machine does not take a bobbin case, the bobbin clips into the hook directly - so you can see the bobbin in that picture. It's not a "class 15" bobbin either.

That is what was funny about the comment - neither the person asking or the seller had a clue what they were looking at.

you what funny, I had to take mine all a part before I could figure out how to get that stupid bobbin out. only after bumping it by accident, Did I see the face move.

mine has the bobbin winder or I'd think thats a motor mount, because a 31-15's motor mount is almost the same

your winder should look like this. the arm is stationary. the thumb screw at the end loosens, just the wheel and spindle for the bobbin move. not sure about the zinc plating, this machine is a makeover evrything on it was replated , including a sporty chrome face plate

This one wasn't on the net when I did the research on mine. It has to be the industrial version and a central bobbin.
