I am so grateful to the people who suggested that I use a razor blade to get the black spots off my white smooth top cooking range. I cleaned first as good as I could and then used a single edge razor blade and it took every spot off! It looks like new. I was afraid it might scratch the top, but it didn't!

So glad it worked for you! There is this stuff at the store (sorry, I don't know what it's called) that puts a protective layer on the glass top after you clean it. I think it might be a cleaner, but my DH uses Windex to clean the glass top, then puts that protective stuff over it. It really does help to prevent spilled food from sticking real hard.

Thanks for that info! I've got black spots on my stovetop as well...now I just gotta get brave and scrape mine!

Sorry, I missed what happened, etc., so I hope I'm not speaking out of turn, but I've only ever used soft scrub. If was real stubborn, I'd take a hot dish rag and lay it over the burner spots and let it "soak" a few times, then scrub, with one of those Choir Boy scrubbies. It's got a mesh like overlay with a yellow sponge within.

Either way, glad you got the spots off!

I just discovered a two pkg. of these blades in our $ store. They are window scrappers. One sided blades in a little plastic holder. So much better for my arthritic hands.

Oh, funny. I just was telling someone at work last night that I do the same thing with the razor. She was afraid to try it, but I assured her that I have never had a problem. It makes them look like new! I do this at least once a month- I am a messy cook! LOL!

my glasstop stove came with a razor in a holder--like a paint
scraper for windows. That is what I have used for 10 years on mine and it looks like new.
I figured if the manufacturer included one and recommended it, that it must be the way to go.

I have really burned some icky stuff over the years and I am sure it would have not come off without my razor
