Hi! I didn't think that I was supposed to post pictures here but the quilt I started using the tutorial, is finished and I posted a picture in the Picture section.
I had alot of fun, I turned the triangles in different directions, thought turning them kept with the scrappy look.
Also had never done a backing fabric and binding all in piece. The mitered corners don't up show up but I think I did a pretty good job. Chris

Oma, thank you so much for this idea. I really liked the pinwheel with the disappearing 4 patch...but hated the idea of making the HST...what a shortcut! Woohoo!

Hey- While waiting on my coffee to brew, I was going through the tutorials and came across your post and was so excited, immediately went and grabbed some fabric and made 4 of the 1/2 square triangles in less than 5 minutes...I always use Best Press when I'm quilting, so I sprayed the squares lightly before I sewed, then after I cut before pressing open.....Squared them down to the size I wanted and they turned out BEAUTIFUL! THANKS so much for your post!!

Here is the 2 recipes I have for "Best Press"

Pressing Spray or linen water
2 cups distilled water
2 oz VODKA
a few drops of essential oils (I get mine from Walmart near the potpourri)
1-2 tablespoons of liquid starch

Mix together in a spray bottle. I have used this with and without the starch. Even with the starch it doesn't flake like the canned starch and sizing tend to.

wrinkle release
You can also use liquid fabric softer to make your own “wrinkle release “. Just mix it with water 1/3 or 1/4 in a spray bottle, lay clothing flat, spray lightly, smooth or lightly tug up and down, then across the width. The inexpensive brand works as well as the name brand.

I agree with you and I make miniatures...3" or less blocks. I cut squares 1 3/4", right sides together, trim seams some, then cut diagonally. I get 4 HST measuring 7/8" for a 3" block...needing 9for a mini basket block I make and they are so easy compared to what I used to do out of bias strips
