This is totally NOT quilting related and I don't know if Mods want to move it....BUT..............(this is long -- sorry)

I had to change doctors this last year because my usual doctor's clinic didn't sign on with my insurance company. I started seeing a woman in a clinic 25 miles from us....my DH sees a male doctor at the same clinic. This female doctor has caused me much anxiety! First she rags on me about my weight...I'm 40 # overweight. In spite of the fact that ALL my blood tests are normal.... Eat your heart out - trigliserides are 60 ( norm is below 200) and cholest (124)....SOOOO she still rags on me! I was losing about 4-10 # a month before I started going to her and now I'm gaining. I finally figured out - she reminds me of my mother!!!!! Lord, I'm 60 yrs old and still feeling the old anxieties.

Now -- the other thing....I take meds for arthritis. I was put on 100 mg, taken 2 x a day -- about 4 yrs ago. I have been doing just great on this! Well, last time I needed a refill, I got 50 mg 2x a day. I called to ask if she made a mistake or if pharmacy made a mistake. She said she'd reduced it, she felt I was taking too much. Without telling me!!! So she said to take them for a month and see how I do....well, I don't do well on that. So I called, told the nurse and she said okay she'd order stronger dose. Well, I got the new prescrip the other day......100 mg to be taken 1 time a day!!!! I'm fed up with their office! This isn't the first time....my meds for high blood pressure was a battle to get the right amount. And my prescrip for asthma meds was to be a years prescrip to be distributed 3 months at a time....they ordered it 1 at a time. That ruled out traveling!!!!! She fixed it but it seems every med causes me to have to battle to get it.

Do you all think I have a good enough reason to call and ask to change over to my husband's doctor?????

YES! The sooner the better. This doctor is not your advocate (imho). If you have no faith in her ability then she is not doing you any good. If she does not communicate with you, then she is not doing you any good. If she rags on you (for whatever reason) she is not doing you any good.

I'm not saying she's a bad doctor, I'm saying she is probably not the best for you.

Since you were forced to change due to bureaucratic reasons, simply chalk this one off to an incompatible choice.

BTW - I'm 51 and I am still channeling my mother. lol

Definitely change providers. Please keep this in mind- you have hired this woman to help you. The difficulties you've mentioned are not out of line- you are not drug seeking and had been doing great on the old dose. As for being overweight, smile at her and pray that she get bleeding hemmorroids. I think this whole nation has gone 'obese nuts' and want to jump on that band wagon. For crying out loud, not everyone is going to be tall and thin. It has never happened in the entire existence of our universe and am pretty sure it's not gonna happen in 2009. If you feel good and are active at your weight, don't sweat it. Life is way, way, way too short to be worried about being cuddly.
Make sure and transfer your medical records over to the new doc and you also might want to take a peek at them to make sure the anal-retentive hasn't put something in there that isn't true. You have a legal right to write a 'rebuttal' to be placed in your chart. The law doesn't let you remove things from your medical record (unless it's the wrong patient's info) but you can certainly challenge things. Take care and enjoy the weekend :) :) :) :)

I think a dr is such a personal thing that if you have one you don't bond with or respect their opinions, you should definitely change. Going to the dr is stressful enough under the best of circumstances.

Now, now, now. Calm down. Mother speaking to you here. some meds are not good for your kidneys or liver. there is a good reason for the change but yes, they should have told you since you are the one taking the medications. sigh. Doctors just are busy people. at least they are looking out for your health.
My hubby was in the hospital for his 2nd knee replacement and his kidneys shut down. very scary. they took him off Aleve and one medication he was on. (he takes 8 others plus lots of insulin).
anyway, if you like the Doctor just have a chat and stay put awhile.

Absolutely! I have had similar experiences that led to a very bad time. One self-centered doctor, can predjudice your file, and it is hard to overcome. Since your asking, I would change ASAP! and go get the treatment you deserve. It is a service that you are paying for, and I had to learn to assert myself the hard way.

You might start with the truth: You aren't comfortable going to her and give the reasons why.

If that clinic won't change assign you to a different doctor, can you go to another clinic?

(In my opinion, this is a problem/situation many people have had to deal with, so I think it belongs in the GCC section)

ABSOLUTELY!!

Not just because of the meds. You should never have to deal with a doctor that talks down to you! I have spent 10 yrs trying to find out what is wrong with me. Doctors kept telling me it must be depression because blood tests didn't come back with anything.

I just found out about a week ago that I have Narcolepsy!! I had to deal with ppl thinking I was lazy and not wanting to help me for 10 yrs. As irritating as it is to switch doctors all the time, it was worth all the hassle. If I hadn't changed until I found a doctor who cared, I would have wasted my entire life sleeping and missing out on my kids growing up!

My advice would definately be to never settle for a doctor who won't listen to what you have to say and care about you. YOU know YOUR body better than anyone else.

Thank you everyone!!! I got brave, called the clinic and asked to be changed to my DH's doctor (I've met him and really like the way he handles my husband's care). They didn't ask why, but I volunteered and said I was having trouble with her getting my meds straight when I need refills. They have me scheduled with new doctor next week!!!!! :mrgreen:

As for my health, I AM in great shape except for the arthritis and high blood pressure -- oh, and asthma (LOL)....nothing wrong as far as liver, etc. I did have high liver enzymes a few years ago, a specialist did liver biopsy and emphatically said my meds were NOT the cause ----- okay, so fat and Pepsi in my diet MAY be the cause, but you didn't hear that here. I started taking Milk Thistle Capsules and now the tests are normal and they say I don't have to say I have liver disease!!!!!

I was irritated that she changed the prescrip without telling me beforehand as to why........And then wouldn't listen to ME!!!! OH, I WILL find out if she put anything bad in the file....I hadn't thought of that!

So, thank you again....and I'll let you know how the new doc appt. goes.
