    Default foot pedal heating up

I was sewing along yesterday (barefoot), and I noticed that my foot pedal was getting warm. Is this normal?

It is normal on a vintage sewing machine, where excess electricity is converted to heat. This video tells you about it - and suggests that you might want to convert to a modern foot pedal for better speed control. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4cHkX8X5ho

It might be the warmth from your barefoot that's contributing to it.. see what happens to the pedal when you have a shoe/sneaker etc. on your foot..

I thought of that, but it was warmer than my foot. I generally have socks on or slippers, so I've never noticed before if it heated up. It's an older sewing machine, Singer Merritt 4525, but it runs smoothly.

I almost always sew barefoot, even at retreats and workshops. My foot pedals do not heat up on any of my machines, from a 30 year old Kenmore to last year's Janome.

I would check and see if the card is heating up too. That could lead to a dangerous situation.

Don't take chances. Get it replaced npw before it shocks you or starts a fire.
