Sometimes I start a VERY small project, I know I can complete, maybe just a little tote, (I'm doing some small child's size now) Something about doing something and completing it gives me what I need to get into the bigger projects. Maybe because I've completed something small but completed it.... silly huh? good luck with your get going hon. :)

I was in that mode a few weeks ago. I just ride it out, like reading some books, using the internet, visiting friends and then they get boring and now its time to pick up on the sewing again. It has to run its course, some times its a few days, sometimes its a few weeks. Just depends, but just flow with it, dont fight it, it will get better. Go see your friends who are productive they will inspire you to start moving again. Good Luck

I spin or knit. I'm a knitting designer, so there is always something to do. I'll go months without knitting, but I'll be sewing. I'll go months without quilting, but I'll be knitting. Then, I'm excited to get back to the other project.

I feel your pain!!! I am in the same position right now. Have a few blocks finished ...but I now use the excuse that I cannot sit on the sewing machine whilst I know household chores are waiting to be done... but I also get distracted by checking out the photo's here! I have taken up cross stitch for the moment ..... maybe taking a break is a good thing from time to time. As long as it isnt too long a break.

How do you get through your quilter's block. Quilting is my mental health and the fact that I can't get started is a bit disturbing to me! There is nothing else I want to do, but I can't get started!!
    Help!
I finally got out of that quilting block after a year. I think it was moving, and illness in my family was the cause. Made a braided table runner, and now I'm in the mood again. Only thing is, I'm trying to figure out what kind of quilt to make next.

My depression contributes to a lot of mine. Sometimes I try something easy and pretty to get going. Then, sometimes I can go from there.

ah...play with your machine...do you have a machine stitch journal yet? Have you tested different thread in her and made a journal of those?

THese are all great things to get you motivated, without a commitment to finishing anything!

I think most of us go through the same thing once in a while. For me, I let it go for a few days then I think of Nike: Just Do It. Once you get going with a project you'll be right back in the quilting mood. I would guess most people have their own solution, knowing it won't last forever.

When this happens I re-organize my sewing room. ... Then revisit some of my quilt books... and then make a potholder out of a block pattern I would not use in a full size quilt.
Typically I don't make it through the re-organizing becasue I discovered something that gives me inspiration. The best part if it does not pass immediatly at least when it does I am ready to go in a tidy room.
