I am definitely lucky. Kevin was the one who actually got me started in quilting...he bought an antique treadle sewing machine for me for Christmas one year....and now we've had a quilt shop together for 2 years. He has a great eye for detail and does the majority of our quilting for customers (all the custom work), and he can piece quilts too if the need arises, although I do the majority of the piecing. We bounce ideas off each other, and usually he is right (although I don't tell him that every time or his head would swell too much lol).

I think I'm totally blessed. My man would sew anything for me including running my long arm. He comes with me to fabric stores and all the quilt shows I go to....It's great and he's my biggest enabler to increasing my stash lol...I say buy 2 or 3 meters he says noooooooo buy 4 or 5 so he never hears coming out of the quilting room these words "OMG I don't have enough of this material". Yeppers he's my enabler....He's a keeper, but not just for quilting but for many many more reasons.

I'm married to a model railroader who has a very large room dedicated to his hobby. He appreciates what I do and I return the favor. He does often help with choices - "Which sashing do you like better?" Things like that. Good color sense, and he encourages me to "buy good tools," and he got me my Janome with some money he got when his mom died. He goes to shows and shops, but does tire of it sooner than a QB does. I go to model RR shows and try to be interested. My sewing is spread around in the kitchen and living room, so I do envy his private space, but the best thing is that we both have a "stash" of stuff we may never use, but we rarely criticize each other for it. If only they built quilt shops and RR shops in the same place, or held shows simultaneously in the same town. Maybe it's best to spread them apart though, so we don't go through all the money at once.

My husband is very supportive, bought me a really nice sewing machine, encourages me to buy dies for my cutting, fabric he will go shopping with me, but I like it when he does not...I like to take my time. He loves to read and play music so we both he our away time a room away. He does help sort my scrap cut pieces for scrappy quilts....darks vs lights and counts them out for me...helps with the design sometimes or colors. Just enough help that keeps him included...and always helps me spray bast my quilt. He is my encouragement...pushes me to finish or start a new project. Got me into FMG'ing and also to make a queen quilt and then a king. He's a keeper...I would not mind him cutting my fabric in the cutter or ironing...but NOPE that is not for him. Oh...and he made me a sewing room.

I belong to a smallish guild (just over 50 members) that meets once a month Sept. through June; I miss them during the summer. I do have a couple of friends who also quilt and once in a while we do things together, incuding a weekend retreat 2x a year.

What I do not have - and do not want, lol, is a DH who quilts! When I see others talk about their husband sewing with them, I cringe! I need some time to myself. Good thing, too, as the most interest he's shown is to say, "That's a lot of pieces." He much prefers super fluffy comforters on the bed.

Then again, I'm not interested in his hobbies, either (watching sports!).

I am blissfully on my own! My DH participates in his way by doing dishes, laundry, cleaning, garbage duty, cut grass and so many other things, just so I can spend what little time I have, enjoying my creative needs.

my hubby doesn't quilt- but he does help me out on occasion- but I do have 2 sons and a nephew who are all 3 wonderful, inspiring quilters- they have since they were quite young encouraged me, challenged me, and been inspiring- my nephew was the first one I had met who used the backside of a fabric in an appliqued piece- I noticed & said- "Jess, you put this piece in upside down"...his reply---I didn't like the other side- I liked this side...& you paid for both sided didn't you? ...my oldest son & my nephew both taught their girlfriends to quilt & helped them with their first quilts- they have wonderful color sense & jump right in with both feet to try things fearlessly...I love it when the 'boys' are around to quilt with! all 3 are adults now- my oldest son is busy, busy living in the city & doing other things...my youngest is in the Navy & not sewing these days...but my nephew- still lives fairly close (40 miles) and is married, expecting his first child and creating a first baby quilt. he's an engineer, and when I visit I always see new blocks hanging on his little design wall. i'm glad my hubby doesn't really want to quilt- the 2 of us would not fit in my sewing room together. i'm messy, while working on a project- he is an 'everything in it's place' type of guy...he is afraid of my room

He doesn't quilt but he can piece. He's picky also like a perfectionist. he supports me in everything I do. He only steps in if it looks like any kind of an expensive venture. Sometimes he will get upset about something then go seam rip through an old pair of jeans. He'll say "I need to tear into something." So I'll give him a pear of jeans or whatever. He has used the machine to mend an old grunge shirt that isn't ready for the scrap basket. If he's at Walmart, he'll stop by the fabric area and look through the remnant bin and maybe bring something home.
