I have also migrated to the inexpensive iron camp. Had a couple Rowentas that started to leak after about six months. I just can't see paying over $100 for an iron. Have had good luck w/ Sunbeams. I consider us lucky to have steam irons. My father gave me a gift a few years ago of an antique iron. It is cast iron, and is the kind you would put on a wood stove to heat up. I use it as a doorstop!!

I know many have been disappointed with Rowenta but I have to say I love mine. Have had it for 10+ years with no issues. I really think the key with Rowenta is making sure that you use the type water it wants. Some want tap and some want distilled. It states so on the box. I made it a point to buy one that required tap at the time. Get the occassional flakes when it needs to be cleaned but that is simply a matter of filling and holding the steam button till it's empty. Maybe a couple of times if it's really flaky. It does have an auto shutoff but only requires you move the iron a little and the reheat time is minimal.

Don't get a rowenda . Mine started leaking and not working right . They didn't replace it and I'm still waiting for a call from them . I called about a mouth ago and told them the problem. So I would not buy another products from them. By the way this is the second irons that I had problems with

I have gone through way too many irons in the last 10 years, so I decided to blow the budget at get the $6 Sunbeam from WalMart!!! Have had it for about a year now & it's working just fine. When it starts to act up - will throw it out & blow the budget again. Got really tired of the auto shutoff.

I also have an Oliso Smart Iron. Got it from Fons and Porter. I love it. I bought my sister one and she loves it.

Good comments. I have been thinking about buying a new iron. I thought maybe I should get an expenxive one, but after reading these comments, I will probably get a cheap one. Buy a cheaper iron, spend more on fabric. Yippee!!

No help to you I suppose: Don't use them and they are fine...I have won 4 in raffles and they mostly sit in the cupboard.
