Default Less then Traditional quilt method

Anyone made a quilt using this method? I have tried other ways to make this pattern but never can get the centers to lay flat at all. Does this method make this pattern work?

Here is the method I've been trying. It does not work for me at all. The centers won't lay flat even if I don't sew over the edges. I have a pile of sewn circles ready to sew together. I used thin batting.

For those of you who are wondering what she's talking about, it's alternative methods to make a Cathedral Windows quilt, or mock CW.

Take a look at my Faux Flowers tutorial on QB. I use my square to mark where the circles need to be sewn together. You need the intersections to just meet, do not over sew the seams or when you go to sew rows together, you will have trouble. I also backstitch when sewing my inspections because there is more stress at that point when you fold back the petals to sew into rows.

perhaps you could iron them folded over flat where they belong before sewing. That might help. http://www.modabakeshop.com/2011/11/...y-playmat.html

Okay I got the centers to lay flat but now I have a small opening where the four meet. I can live with that. A yo yo will cover the hole up just fine. This method isvery simple and great that it's quilt as you go but there is a learning curve. I walked away for a while but now it's coming together and not frustrating. Thanks Tartan for the tutorial.

Nancy, on her show, made this pattern. She had a guest on that was the one who actually did the pattern. Look on her website.

I use " Charlies" method and Love the way it makes up. This method builds a quilt fast and finished. It will really use up scraps too.

As an aside, I don't understand the concept of a flat quilt. personally, the texture created by quilt process only enhance a quilt that is to be used and loved. I will leave the flat quilts to the wonderful people who can achieve it.

My centers looked liked a volcano. That is beyond texture, it looked messed up because it was.

I am wondering if you used a flat enough batting? She made sure and said she liked the thin batting.
