Those sizes are a for instance they will work w/ any sashing width you want as long as there is a 3/8th difference.

I had the same problem with a panel of chickens. I put sashing around the chickens and then cut them a little wonky to make square blocks. I had to do the wonky because the chicken blocks alone were rectangles, not squares.

i think sashing 3/8" wide says "Look at me!!! I'm too small!!" plus it's very difficult to get it to be exactly the same width.

Will the width difference not be visible when they butt together on the sides? The blocks will be alternated and the bottom sashings will be touching on the sides. 3/8ths inch is a pretty good bit to fudge in. I'm not sure this would work either. I realize I can add to the blocks but I am afraid it will be visible that they won't match up when side by side. Am I wrong on this? I would love to be able to work it by using two different measurements for the sashing....that would be simple. But just can't visualize how they will work on the whole top. i'm thinking the sashing has to be the same size or it will look wonky. Thanks for your taking the time to advise me. I do appreciate it so much. Will keep thinking and trying to figure this one out!

Just thought of this....I may have to put the blocks in rows of sizes that are the same, not alternating blocks. That would work the way you have described it. That may be the simplest of all solutions. Thanks again!! I will let you know if this does it.

I guess I should have said 1 1/2" sashing on the large blocks, and 1 7/8" for the small blocks. But, you are right, where they meet you will see a difference. (

Here is my rendition of the uneven blocks. I hope. The red are the smaller blocks, the blue the larger blocks. You can notice the difference, but is it too obvious as the solution? Ann

Why not just add 1 1/2 or 2" strips to two sides, then trim all blocks to the same size - 11 1/2 or 12".

How did you do that? Did you enter those specific measurements and it looked like this? That's great. No, I can hardly see the difference. So you put 1 1/2" on the large blocks and 1 7/8" on the smaller blocks and it turns out like your drawing/picture? Thank you for going to all that trouble. I couldn't picture how it would look but I think this might be ok? What do yall think? Is it too noticeable? This is a toddler quilt also, after all, so she won't know it's not right!! How do you place them on the blocks....left and bottom, or right and bottom or sides....?? not sure how to construct this but it does look ok I think. Thanks for your help krafty14!
