Last year a QOV was being auctioned on E-Bay. I know that the maker and QOV organizers were made aware and trying to stop the auction. Never did find out the end result. One showing up in goodwill, well somehow that seems less offensive. Especially when you consider it could have been donated due to the passing of the vet or some other reason.

Regarding the RW&B color scheme, this is not a requirment of QOV. However they do work with recipients and RW&B are the most popular choices.

The most popular colors are Red, White and Blue. Patriotic themes are loved and most often requested. Although 10% of our military are women, when given a choice, most of them choose patriotic colors or designs as well. BUT...be advised that not all recipients want Red, White, Blue, patriotic. What NONE of the recipients want are fabrics which are inappropriate...such as juvenile fabrics intended for children. What will happen if you choose to go this way is that your quilt may sit on a shelf gathering dust.

I know several military families and they are bombarded with red white and blue items. I can understand their reasoning for not being excited over more red white and blue. The love and appreciation is in the quilt making and giving. I have several quilts for servicemen but seldom use red white and blue together. I have had their wives say thank you so much for not using the red white and blue theme. Some families love it some not so much.

so, did you buy it? I probably would have- then passed it on again- I've had quilts donated to different places that have been received, and passed on many times - even donated else where to be found & passed on some more- so much better than winding up in a dog house somewhere....

It's possible that the person that it was given to has passed and whom ever donated it? Well, that could be for a million reasons.

When I was making QOV with a group they specifically told us NOT to make them all red, white, and blue. We made all variety of colors as there are not only male service people but also women veterans and they all have their own preferences. There were several cream/tan/brown combos and even pink and purple. It may have gotten to the thrift store with the passing of the veteran, unfortunately.

It could be the person it was given to passed and the family gave it to goodwill, I mean we can't always think the worst that people abandon them. Someone might have loved it while using it.

while we all hope they give comfort to the people that receive them, it could become a painful reminder of how their life has changed. What is comforting to one may not be to someone else.
