Someone recently mentioned ordering some paper that you stick to the backing of a quilt. It has designs on it that you can follow to FMQ, then tear it away. Has anybody ever tried this?

It works. Search online for quilting designs and you'll find some with sticky backs. Someone may know some direct links.

You can also print out designs, even draw you own designs, and then use spray baste or glue stick to adhere them to the quilt top so you can stitch.

Works for me.

i tried it but i don't think it works very well. ripped it off, it is hard to follow the lines ithink. wouldn't reccomend it.

It took more time to pick out the paper than to quilt the design. A total bore This wasn't sticky back but connecting threads paper. My guess is it's the same problem

I draw out designs on a roll of paper (exam table paper from a medical supply store), then I trace the design onto Sulky Solvy with washable markers. I pin it to the quilt and do the quilting. Once done, the larger sections of Sulky are cut away and the rest dissolves in the wash.

I can't stay on the lines either, but when the lines are gone, I'm the only one that knows. ;)

I've not used it, but I have used glad press and seal, drew my own design. Keep stitches fairly long and the press and seal comes right off. I use it for my floater on top when embroidering towels on my embroidery machine.

I've been using these patterns for years and love them. They are called Borders Made Easy. They have easy patterns where you just stitch on the lines and free motion stipple patterns where you have to drop your feed dogs and use free motion quilting. The free motion patterns are a little more challenging but I got better with practice. Tearing the paper away does take some time but I do it when I am sitting in front of the tv and my kids like to help also. I'd rather tear away the paper than mark my quilt. I have a computer program to print these out. Works OK for me.
