I was just about to write about the virtues of saving the fabric from old clothes, since I have been going through my closets and finding some great cottons. Then this article from Quilted Paradise newsletter was in my inbox. It covers the subject. If you don't already subscribe to this newsletter, you should check it out. I have gotten some very useful information from it.

In additon to old clothes, I have bought many sheets, bed skirts and curtains that can be used for their fabric. I almost threw out a shirt yesterday as it was really faded on the outside, but as I dropped it in the basket, it landed with the inside showing and it was still very colorful. Needless to say, I put it in the other basket to save.

I save old clothes for this reason too! I think I must have a fear of not being able to buy more fabric!

I do donate a lot of used clothes, but some I've held onto so long they are no longer in style, yet have good fabric. AND...our local Walmart closed its' fabric dept. last year. I was not happy about that.

clothing from yard sales and thrift stores are the best supply of wools- you can get so much great wool fabric very inexpensively that way- compared to $20+ a yard for new wools.

i have found looking at garments as if browsing a fabric store is a great way to yard sale! you can find colors-patterns you can not find in yardage- and a shirt, skirt, dress or jacket all contain ALOT of fabric!
