I've never used a sheet but I'm gonna check out the thrift stores after reading this! I'm glad for any hints that help me to save money and make more quilts! Thanks!

Hey, the word is that cotton fabric will be $20.00 a yd by the end of the year. My thought is that we should be buying all we can get before that happens. If it is in the form of a sheet, oh well. I just see it as "wide" fabric! LOVE 'em!!

I got a twin sheet at Wallmart on the clearance aisle for $2.50. You have to just watch and check. But I didn't see any king size. That would have been better for me. I will have to check again.

I love the idea of the sheets from WalMart for saving mula. I do wonder though do they pile (little balls on them) after they are washed? Or is that something from sheets of long ago? Also, why is it that sheets are harder to quilt? Isn't a batik a tight weave because of the process of how they make the batik? Wouldn't that be about the same as a sheet? I'm just asking because these are curiosity questions I've wondered about. Thanks.

I got a call from a quilt shop yesterday - she had some fabric donated by someone asked if I wanted it. Absolutely I wanted it. Went to pick it up. A very pretty blue floral, measured it when I got home 4 inches less than 9 yds. --for free. Did a happy dance.

Don't forget Goodwill for sheets for pennies - people give away sheets when they change bedroom decor and some of the sheets are perfectly wonderful for backing. Sometimes you can also find yardage for little money. Folks give to Goodwill when Grandma dies and no one sews in the family and they don't know what to do with it. Just saying...

I've made hundreds of tied quilts for charity and gifts and at least half of them have sheets for backs. I think it's a great idea - and no seams!!
