I am glad to hear so much enthusiasm over using sheets - I was looking at a box I have of various (collected) sizes - the initial beds are long gone - and thought maybe I could use them to at least practice on - - now I'll take a bigger look at them to see what I can use as backing! Thanks.

I use sheets for all my quilt backings. I buy them at Wally world or thrift shops. They have worked good for me.

Myself, and all my Pathwork class ladies raid all the local Charity shops of their bedding and especially children's duvet covers. Perfect for backings, but we only use the better unworn ones, at prices like a £1 or £2 what better?

Also a variety of pillowcases blocks pieced makes for interesting backs and they are just pennies  Bit more work but well worth it.

Used a king sheet for my son's wedding quilt ... wonderful not to have to piece it!

No, for you, you're buying a sheet, not fabric. How you use it is another matter all together!

    Does that help you? :-D

Besides, look how much real fabric you'd be saving. Sorta like eating a candy bar and drinking a diet drink. Save where you can.

I bought a full size sheet for the backing and a twin size to make pillow shams from.

I might use a sheet if it is 100% cotton and a high thread count but not polyester. Just my preference.

I thought at one time that you weren't supposed to use sheets for backings. Something about the thread count????
