Starburst quilt from M*QC
I am planning to make the M*QC Starburst quilt. I have watched the video but have concerns about using HST's with bias edges. Her pattern/method is to use 10 inch squares, sew 1/4" seam around the blocks and cut diagonally to make 4 HST's.
I would rather use the F&P 1/4" ruler, mark my diagonal, sew on either side and cut down the middle. no bias edges.
The problem I have is, I need to know what size HST's her method makes, in order to make them using my method. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance,
Dee

I think that using her method results in HSTs that are around 6.75 unfinished or 6.25 finished. Cash's Mom has a good suggestion, use some scraps (or even tissue paper) and make one her way, then measure.
However, since the entire quilt is HSTs, you can really make them any size you want.

Her method is SO easy you should try it with some scrap fabric and you will see. I am much more accurate with her method. You can find a chart here http://www.blossomheartquilts.com/ there are also charts on pinterest if search for alternative HST chart.

Doesn't Jenny make 4 HSTs out of 10 inch squares with her method? If that is the case, I think you would have the same size if you cut your ten inch squares in quarters or used charm squares. I, like you, like to avoid the bias edges.

I think using charms, layers cut into quarters then hst-Ed will give you smaller hst....two stitching lines - or if you just do one stitch line right on diagonal, lots of unnecessary waste.actually, if you don't rough-house those original bias edged hst/s, it's no problem, could even be helpful in matching seams.......jmho
