I don't there is such a thing as a bad Viking. Had a Designer SE which my DH traded in for the Diamond as a 50th anniversary present. Was not happy since I loved my other one, but I LOVE,LOVE, LOVE this one!

I have 2 vikings and they are both wonderful and very reliable. You can get all the different feet from EBay at very reasonable prices too.

I have two vikings and love them both.My oldest is about ten years old and other than cleaning no repairs have been needed. They are excellent machines although very pricey. Nice gift.

Yes. Vikings are excellent machines. I have the designer 1 and I love it. I use it for embroidery, quilting, and just plain sewing. Don't be afraid to use it, try all the stitches and learn how to change them by lengthening or shortening the stitches.

I'm sorry about your loss. Sounds like you have a wonderful father-in-law and hope you enjoy your "new" machine.

I have 5 Vikings and love them. Wouldn't have anything else. Although I do have an old (2) Singer and some other old machines that don't get used.
