I swear by Comfort Thimble. While I don't have large fingers the thimble does come in L and XL. I don't know anything about the vendor for the this link but see that they offer all sizes and at the best price I have seen too.

The thimbles are so comfortable and I have not had any needles poke through and a low rate of needle breakage with using one. I bought one at a quilt shop while on vacation and have ordered more since as back-up.

thanks for the question. I have an arthritic nub on index finger and will try the clover leather thimble.

I've tried the leather thimble with the metal in the tip (in which the needle always slips off). I do not quilt with a hoop so my method is probably not optimal for thimbles. Any ideas for my fat fingers? I need lots of room and lots of movement.
