My Walmart never completely stopped selling fabric. They seemed to have stopped getting anything new in though. One of the stands that used to house their fabric fell apart and they never replaced it. Now they just have fabric along the wall (same fabric as last year) and one stand. They hired a new manager for the department but I've been told that she doesn't sew and is not interested in improving the department and there's usually no one to cut fabric either. Last week I went in and the lady who helped me stated that she would PAY ME TO TEACH HER TO SEW! She also didn't know how to measure fabric proceeding to use the entire cutting table to measure the fabric instead of using the 1 yard markers. Thank goodness I have access to another Walmart, JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby and a good LQS a little farther away.

Our Walmart in Johnson City, TN just did a remodel/reset of our fabric dept last week!
I have lots of space for the new fabric to come in. We have a lot of new in already, more to come! We also increased our notions section and our craft section some! (The flowers section moved!)

We have more FQ and precuts, more kits and lots more bolts!

I don't know about the 2000 stores as the WM magazine that came out within the company last month only said 800 stores were getting fabrics back. Maybe the 2000 included the ones like mine that expanded!

If your in my area - come see me!

These whine on Walmart threads really irk me as nearly 11,000 readers on this board already know. The Nebraska stores are not only being restocked with fabrics but they are adding large sections for crafts, yarns and other products similar to what Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's carry. Yippee!!

I wish that some of you would stop to realize that Walmart is not a professional quilt shop and that the fabrics they carry are for ALL SEWERS, not just quilters. Many cotton fabrics are intended for children's clothing, making shirts and blouses etc. Why on earth would anyone feel that Walmart fabrics are inappropriate for quilt making when it is likely that some of those fabrics were never intended to be used for that purpose?

Fabrics are coming back to Walmart. I believe that the big push was to start in September from what I have read. It's just now the middle of September. Give 'em a break eh?! All this complaining is going to make them believe that they'll never be able to make quilters happy and I hope that isn't the truth. Anyway...just how many Walmarts are there in this country?? I know the big city closest to me has a least six super stores and they are building another one there. 2000 stores is probably a drop in the bucket to how many there are across the country, it's going to take some time.

I love to visit the fabric department in WM. I just want someone there to cut! Our fabric dept just sits there unstaffed.

it was in our paper today to.

I hate the way our walmarts here in Maryland have changed their store....it doesnt feel friendly anymore...the isles are like grocery stores and the employees dont seem to be happy anymore...and loosing the fabric dept made me so sad....and now they have fabric but its in small packages that you cant touch...I like feeling the fabric and seeing what Iam getting....hate, hate it.....Trish

I got that flyer in my newspaper this morning but did not take the time to note using coupons say like from JoAnn's and etc. We have a nice area in our store which is less than a mile from my house and tons of new materials have come in, I went last week and spent $55.00 of my VISA Birthday care. LOL I could not make up my mind on 3 different pieces I wanted to use for back grounds on several projects. They have sewing machines and all kinds of threads and trims, I would pester your local stores and ask to speak to the manager and etc until you get them in your store.

I hope they do. Their fabric is not quilt shop quality but then there's alot of people I make quilts for that I do not want to spend quilt shop prices for. I made my son a quilt with Wal Mart fabric back in 1999, he has used it EVERYDAY & then some & it's falling apart but it held up for 10 yrs. Good enough for me

I have two walmarts in my area that sell fabric. They are nice big depts and nice people. I'm one of the lucky ones.We sometimes RV and I miss stopping in at the walmarts along our journey to look at the fabric. It gave me something to do when hubby was at parts stores.Oh yeah, my hubby felt the same way we do when walmart downsized they're auto dept.

The Walmart near me is a new store (1 yr) and it never had fabric. I was in there last week and lo and behold it now has fabric - yardage and precuts. Some appeared to be good quality. "You pay your money and you take your choice" as the saying goes. If you don't like it don't buy it.
