oh Joyce, you will LOVE it....I just bought one a month or so ago, and have not regretted it for a second. It does everything and more. Maybe the store where you are looking will let you test drive it a time or two before you make a decision...thats what I did and the second time I took my checkbook with me ! I had a Brother - new - and was able to trade it in for a full refund! My salesman was very generous with me. Let us know what you decide...I dont think you will be disappointed.

I have the Singer knockoff of Janome 6500. The Singer came out one year after the Jamone. I think they are probably made by the same manufacturer. I love it and I think the Jamone is probably even better than the Singer. It does so many things yet it is easy to learn how to use. Very well lighted also.

I have the 6600 and love it. I do like the accufeed on it. In fact I hardly ever take it off. I sew everything with it. Any Janome machine will be a wonderful addition to your sewing room. And used machines are sometimes available at your dealer, also have the dealer check for the ones the company has used as displays. There's a list that comes out every week that the dealers get and it has machines cheaper than list and still under full warranty.

There is a useful yahoo group for Janome 6500 which also includes the 6600. I have the 6600 and love it for the Accufeed

My Jenome dealer carries Singer machines, but he said he don't like the new ones, as well as their old machines.
I think it is because he makes more on the Jenome,

I have a Singer that I bought from same place, back in "65, it was a work horse and has many hours on it.
It was top of the line and can do many things the newer machines do, BUT not like the new computerized machines.
All those bells and whistle make sewing so much easier, and fun.

Of course if you need repairon computerized ones it is gonna cost more too.
Hubby always fixed my old machine whenever it needed it, but won't mess with the new ones , like my Serger, it has a timing divice on it, which can cause problems

So glad I read all the post on 6500. Just today I finally decide it was what I wanted.

I know this is an old post, but I too have the 6600P and love it. Only thing I miss is a freearm and I cannot for the life of me get the automatic threader to work. Otherwise, it came with extension table and all the accessories one needs. I love the needle down, auto thread cutter, knee lift, and teh Accu-feed. I think I paid about $1250 or so a few years back.

I've also joined forums and discussion groups. My impression is that on the whole, Janome owners are the happiest with their machines. Yes, there are some horror stories, and there are undoubtedly "lemons" out there that just don't do what they should - and I know about that,, because I have another Janome model that's given me endless trouble. However, having started my search for a new machine saying "anything but a Janome", I'm now thinking that I may well go for the Janome 6500P, 6600 or Horizon, as long as I can find a helpful dealer and can spend a good long time test-driving a machine thoroughly.
Good strategy. Look around and get informed as much as possible, before taking the plunge
