elizabrat; red eye gravy is the remains of whatever meat was cooked, I have no idea where "redeye" came from, you stir in the flour a bit of water and there you go. and any kind of spice you want but the "southerners usually added onion.add enough water to make it thinner

I have been battling with a stomach bug all weekend. Couldn't eat
    anything except ginger snaps.
Today I am afraid to eat because every time I do eat my stomach
    starts all over again.

But I did manage to get 98% of a new top finished yesterday, just
some squaring up, sandwich, quilt & bind.

Red eye gravy is usually made with ham pan drippings, and I believe "red eye" refers to the center-cut ham bone that appears to have a red center.

So sorry to hear that you are down and out! I hope you get feeling better soon. Here is a pic of the DQ I sent. I have been playing with wool quite a bit lately!

I am in complete agreement with the rest, Chasezzz the DQ you made is just fantastic! I'm sure many of us are thinking "why didn't I ever think to do something like that"?

It's at #258. I don't know why they came out so yellow. Silly camera. I had to fight off a friend who tried to steal that little Santa jewel.

    Great quilts this time, all!
I love gravy! My Pa (grandpa) used to make the best! He would use the drippings from the bacon, sausage, or ham he had cooked for breakfast, stir in flour (to make the roux), add in just a dab of sugar (or back in the day, sweet n low). Stir it til it was nice and brown just so. Then slowly stir in the milk, keep stirring and let it thicken just right. My Nanny's (grandma) home made biscuits along with Pa's gravy, YUM YUM!! These when Mom or I make the gravy, will use fat free canned milk. Not the sweetened condensed, just the reg can. We use ratio of half water, half the canned milk, then pour it in the roux mixture. It really tastes great. Now I am hankering for some good ole red eye gravy, home made biscuits, and Nanny's home made apricot, peach, or pear preserves...AHHHH... What high cholesterol???!!...
