Tonight I went to Joanns to pick up some Singer Sewing Machine Lubricant-they claimed they no longer carry it. I checked with the Viking sewing machine dept they don't sell it either.
Is there a product I can use as lubricant for an old 301 singer? I took it apart and cleaned it up, went to oil and lube it but need new lubricant. Apparently whoever used to own this machine never ever oiled or lubed it. Honest everyplace in the machine is bone dry and no old gummed up lubricant anywhere. Help?

I have found the Singer lubricant at Singer dealers but have also been told that you can use lithium grease.....I havenever tried it as I will use the Singer as long as I have it. Maybe those on this board with more experience can give you a better answer.

walmart sells the singer machine oil, but not the lube/grease (have no idea why. probably cause new machines dont use it? or you cant access to use it??) Most folks on the board will recommend Triflow which can be found from Sew Classic and other online sources... though if the machine has a motor like the featherweight you have to use singer lube. hope that helps.

Triflow oil, which I recommend, should also be available at your local bicycle shop.

Use Singer grease for the motor though.

Do you have a quilt store nearby? Mine carries it. How about a SM repair shop? sew-classic.com has it online. Probably April1930shoppe.com, too and she ships free.

I had to get it from the local singer dealer. I tried 3 local bicycle shops and they all had Triflow oil but not grease (good alternative for the gears but not to be used inside the motor).

Not to be used in the motor, though. She recommends either Singer grease or Vaseline.

Vaseline works great in a pinch, and most bike shops sell small tubes of lithium grease. Auto shops sell the large tubes.

I just checked - Joann's sells both the Singer oil and Singer lubricant online. My local Joann's stopped carrying it in the stores also, but you can still get it online.

I did machine Knitting for many years. We found the lubricating oil to use is Gun Oil. It will not gum up like sewing machine oil. specially when the machine is not used very often. It is very important to only buy gun oil without any Solvent. Hoppe's has a lubricating gun oil without solvents. I used to buy mine from Passap in Canada. Just google Passap. I have been using it on all my Sewing machines including my Singer Featherweight.The machines run nice and smooth and there is no oil dripping.
